About Us

Devils Lake was originally known to the Dakotas who hunted near the big, salty lake as Mni Wakan, or Spirit Lake. Some English speaking people interpreted the name as Bad Spirit Lake. The city of Devils Lake was founded in 1882.

Devils Lake is conveniently located along U.S. Hwy 2. As of the census of 2000, there were 7,222 people, 3,127 households, and 1,773 families living in the city.
